Sigma Theta Tau Zeta Theta-at-Large Chapter

Sigma Theta Tau, or Sigma, is the second-largest nursing organization in the world with approximately 135,000 active members residing in more than 90 countries.

It was founded in 1922 at what is now the Indiana University School of Nursing. The Zeta Theta-at-Large Chapter, founded in 1982, includes the University of Toledo/Bowling Green State University Consortium, Lourdes University, and Mercy College of Ohio. Sigma’s purpose is to recognize superior achievement and development of leadership qualities; foster high professional standards; encourage creative work; and, strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession.

Membership Requirements

Undergraduate students must:
  • Have completed half of the nursing curriculum.
  • Achieve academic excellence, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Rank in the top 35% of the graduating class.
  • Meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Graduate students must:
  • Have completed one-quarter of the nursing curriculum.
  • Achieve academic excellence, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Meet the expectation of academic integrity.

Dues

The annual membership fee, which is set by the national organization, is approximately $103. Please note that this amount may change from year to year.
