Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education

Program Overview

Mercy College of Ohio offers a Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing Education, consisting of four specialty courses in nursing education (12 credit hours) that will prepare Master’s educated nurses to teach in higher education or in a healthcare system, and progress toward meeting the eligibility requirements of the National League for Nursing (NLN) organization, to take the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) examination

Preparation for a role in nursing education allows nurses to highlight their clinical expertise while they develop their skills in teaching. “Educators must be flexible enough to adapt curriculum and teaching methods in response to innovations in nursing science and ongoing changes in the practice environment. Individuals pursuing full-time faculty roles should have additional preparation in the art and science of teaching (i.e., pedagogy, curriculum development, student assessment) to better convey their clinical mastery to nursing students”
