Mercy College Receives Scholarship Grant

Mercy College of Ohio received a $25,000 scholarship grant for nursing students from the Greater Toledo Community Foundation Ruth L. Kelly Foundation Fund on January 7. In 1970, Ruth Lundt Kelly became the founding dean of the Medical College of Ohio School of Nursing which offered the area's first baccalaureate degree nursing program. The Ruth L. Kelly Foundation was established to carry on charitable or educational activities with an emphasis on scholarship support for students enrolled in degree-granting nursing programs in northwest Ohio.

The Ruth L. Kelly grant will provide scholarships to both associate and bachelor’s degree-seeking nursing students in various amounts at or above $500. Susan Wajert, PhD, President of Mercy College, said, “I’m immensely grateful for the scholarship support for our nursing students. More than 80% of Mercy students are eligible for financial aid, and scholarships are often a determining factor for students completing their degree and becoming nurses. Mercy College is appreciative and proud of this long-standing financial support totaling more than $271,000 from the Ruth L. Kelly Foundation over the years”.
