The primary mission of the Office of Accessibility is to provide equal access to all opportunities for Mercy College students and to enhance academic and personal development through advocacy, education, and accommodations.

The Office of Accessibility is committed to enhancing student's academic development and independence, and will work with students on an individual basis to assess reasonable academic accommodations that provide equal access to full participation in the college environment.

Students who:

  • Have a documented disability/medical condition
  • Are experiencing difficulties in academic areas

Establishing accommodations is an interactive process between the Office of Accessibility Services, documentation of disability, and the student. Reasonable accommodations are based on many factors, including: severity of disability, impact of disability on the individual student, classroom environment, and course objectives.

  • Contact the Office of Accessibility Services on your respective campus for a confidential meeting to discuss disability-related accommodations.
  • Provide complete, adequate, and current documentation (See Procedures, Guidelines, and Forms for the Office of Accessibility link below).

Mercy College of Ohio is committed to making individuals with disabilities full participants in its programs, services and activities through compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. It is the policy of Mercy College that no otherwise qualified individual with a disability shall be denied access to, the benefits of, or participation in, any program, service or activity offered by the college.

As such, individuals with disabilities have a right to request reasonable accommodations. Reasonable accommodations provide equal access for students to fully participate in or benefit from the college's programs, services, and activities in a non-discriminatory, integrated manner.

All college representatives, including faculty, staff and students are responsible for the implementation of this policy and adherence to the principles of equal access.

Information regarding disability is kept confidential to the highest extent possible, and documentation of disability is maintained in the Office of Accessibility, separate from students' academic records.

Mercy College strives to create a supportive community that promotes awareness, sensitivity and understanding of students with disabilities. Watch Inside Mercy College and for emails about events and educational opportunities.

Students with approved testing accommodations may take tests with accommodations in the Testing Center if accommodations cannot be provided in the class due to course scheduling. Students are responsible for communicating with faculty regarding testing accommodations. Students are also responsible for scheduling test appointments with the Testing Center.
